Hellinikon
Observing the new (or forthcoming) norm for Hellinikon, it is intriguing to notice the subtle clash between the structured, yet fluid and organic space created and the controlled natural elements close by.
The new coastline reinstates the coastal front of Agios Kosmas. The development areas created in this new plan are based on said coastline. The urban development and design of blocks folds out based on the existing space. Nature is brought back ; streams once hidden now resurface. Communal green spaces now appear controlled and moderated. The metropolitan park closes the empty space left behind and sets the tone for communication and dialogue with the rest of the surrounding city.
Aghios Kosmas - phase 0
The coastal front of Agios Kosmas is transformed. It alternates between urban disorder and urban clarity. The coastline now defines the neighbourhood, rather than the opposite. However, the new neighbourhood, even though vastly changed, still lack communal spaces and green areas near the housing lots.
The alternating view of the old versus the new (or more accurately the existing versus the forthcoming) can be revealing.
