Hellenikon

Hellinikon is a unit of the Municipality of Argyroupolis-Hellinikon of the Southern Sector of Athens of the Attica Region. Its total area is 7.5 square km, of which 5.5 belonged to the old Hellenic International Airport. Originally built in 1938, it was the only airport in the Greek capital, but closed in 2001 after six decades to pave the way for Athens' new International Airport before the city's turn as host of the 2004 Olympic Games. Hellenikon appears as a huge, almost evacuated, geographical presence in the landscape of Athens. In addition, as one of the last public sites remaining in Athens, Hellenikon is a representative of a potentially metropolitan public center for the city and is therefore highly controversial, politically, economically and culturally.

Aghios Cosmas

Aghios Cosmas is a large sandy beach within walking distance from the seaside boulevard Avenue, immediately after Alimos, opposite the premises of the former Athens International Airport is located approximately 9 km southeast of the city center, thus it is the nearest to the center of Athens coast of Attica.

Amphibius Living

Amphibius, a term derived from the Greek “amphibios“, or “living a double life”, usually used to express the lifestyle of the animals that live both in the water and the land. Describing perfectly as a beyond the literal land-water binary to encompass new amphibious lifestyles can be a springboard to approaching the  double conditions of nature and/ or cities, social and/ or private lives, vacations and/or everyday living, etc. all concluding to the basic manifestations of the human spirit, those of desires and needs. Thus, one can suggest that as modern day amphibians we keep surviving through many circumstances of duality, dilemmas and contradictions.

Our project aims in finding the meeting points and possible intersections between all the above dipoles and consequently transitioning our viewpoint in living through an architecture of need, to an architecture that celebrates our need to succumb to desire.
